The Sr. Manager, Investigations is responsible for leading the team that receives and reviews complaints, plans and conducts investigations, and communicates investigation findings to appropriate partners. At times, the Sr. Manager will conduct investigations specifically in partnership with in-house counsel, external counsel, ethics and compliance, or other business functions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary expert on workplace investigations at BBW

  • Lead, coach, and mentor the investigations team, providing planning and guidance as needed

  • Understand business functions and proactively identify trends, training needs, etc.

  • Identify business risks and escalate to appropriate leadership as needed

  • Review written reports from investigative team and help to communicate outcomes to critical partners

  • Periodically audit investigations to ensure that all investigations are conducted in a way that directly supports BBW’s culture of transparency, fairness, and objectivity. The Sr. Manager’s goal should be to inspire associate confidence in BBW’s inclusive culture.

  • Create opportunities for the investigative team to partner with appropriate leaders, develop and continually refine the team’s investigative strategies, and ensure that all assigned associate concerns are thoroughly investigated in a fair, unbiased, and consistent manner.

  • Be an ambassador to other business leaders and key partners on investigation procedures, internal policies, and risk management and intervention strategies

  • Research, interpret, and apply local, state and federal employment laws to investigatory procedures, documentation, and resolutions.

  • As a member of the broader HR team, participate in other assignments and partner with colleagues or other departments on special projects or assignments as needed.

  • Work closely with the Learning and Development team to develop and deliver solutions or educational programs designed proactively to address systematic workplace issues and trends that arise during investigations.

  • Assist in the development of reporting suitable for senior leaders and the Board related to workplace investigations

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience conducting sophisticated HR investigations and conflict resolution, and/or compliance enforcement or equivalent experience.

  • 3-5 years People Leader experience.Ability to demonstrate proficiency and expertise in objective fact gathering, high level of organization and prioritization, information synthesis and analysis, exceptional interpersonal communication, and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Retail experience preferred

  • Labor Relations experience.

  • Deep working knowledge of employment-related laws, regulations, and procedures (e.g. DOL practices, EEOC processes, Title VII protections, FMLA/CFRA, ADA accommodations, NLRA, etc.)

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including: the ability to be impartial and project impartiality, and the ability to establish rapport with a diverse range of people.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and lead competing priorities effectively.

  • Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges.

  • Ability to analyze and identify trends and influence recommended solutions.

  • Champion of diversity equity and inclusion who demonstrates this in all interactions

  • Ability to manage issues of complexity and extreme sensitivity with a high level of diplomacy, integrity, honesty, and respect.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and plan work (self and team) to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare written reports and provide reliable testimony explaining the investigation’s process, findings, conclusions, and rationales.

  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills enabling ability to conduct successful investigations on a broad spectrum of associate issues, including, but not necessarily limited to, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law, or related field or equivalent experience.

  • Employment law experience or training in labor/associate relations preferred

  • HR Professional certification (eg., SPHR/PHR, SHRM-CP/SCP, or related/similar certifications) preferred

  • Association of Workplace Investigators Certificate Holder (AWI-CHI) preferred

  • Other investigative experience or certifications from other disciplines, such as Ethics and Compliance, Certified Fraud Investigator, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Internal Auditor, etc. preferred
